Here, our support engineer <a href=\"mailto:matthew.greenslade@edrmedeso.com?subject=Enquiry%20re%20Elastic%20Units%20(Blog%20Post)\">Matt Greenslade<\/a>, gives a step-by-step guide to some of the ways you can use elastic units more efficiently depending on the jobs you\u2019re running.<\/h3>\n<figure class=\" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic \" style=\"max-width: 272px;\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt1.png\" alt=\"\" data-image=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt1.png\" data-image-dimensions=\"272x387\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"6385d65c269e9c76e6c89e55\" data-type=\"image\" \/><\/figure>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>In Ansys Mechanical\u2026..<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Update Projects from the Workbench Page<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Workbench doesn\u2019t consume any Elastic Units, so after performing all pre-processor tasks in Ansys Mechanical, close the Mechanical window and solve the job from the Workbench page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Make sure that you also go to Tools&gt;Options&gt; Mechanical and set the Release License for Prep-post license.<\/p>\n<figure class=\" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic \" style=\"max-width: 383px;\">\n<h4><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt2.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt2.png\" alt=\"\" data-image=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt2.png\" data-image-dimensions=\"383x296\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"6385d6e84a02e4169ab9b169\" data-type=\"image\" \/><\/h4>\n<\/figure>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong><em>This will save 12 Elastic Units an hour compared to solving with the Mechanical GUI open.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Mechanical does not have a timeout function, so be sure to close the Mechanical window when you\u2019re not using it so you don\u2019t burn credits unnecessarily!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>For Ansys Fluent Users\u2026<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Fortunately, Fluent has an idle timeout setting. This is a great way to stop unnecessary credit usage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">This can be done under <strong><em>File&gt;Idle Timeout<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic \" style=\"max-width: 109px;\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt3.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt3.png\" alt=\"\" data-image=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt3.png\" data-image-dimensions=\"109x323\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"6385d809eeedf56d7eea0883\" data-type=\"image\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Fluent licensing works slightly differently so you should not be consuming prep-post credits while using the Solution window.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>Using Electronics Desktop<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Models can be solved without running the Electronics Desktop window. To do this, navigate to the Electronics Desktop Job Submission tool in the Start menu.<\/p>\n<figure class=\" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic \" style=\"max-width: 2028px;\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt5.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt5.png\" alt=\"\" data-image=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/matt5.png\" data-image-dimensions=\"2028x1371\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.5,0.5\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"6385d8b35f679917d0f8aeda\" data-type=\"image\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Select your prepared simulation, and under Compute resources, add a new node named localhost, with your desired number of cores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Submit the job and watch the solution using the Monitor tool. <strong>This process can also save you 12 credits per hour!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>Do you use SpaceClaim? *<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Due to a recent change in licensing on the Elastic portal, SpaceClaim now draws the Discovery Modelling License from the Elastic portal by default.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">If you\u2019re using the Discovery Simulation functionality this is great, but if you\u2019re just using SpaceClaim for geometry prep, create a new Environment Variable on your computer with<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ANS_MODELER_FLIP_LICENSE = 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">This will change SpaceClaim back to the mode where it draws a SpaceClaim license from the portal, <strong>saving a couple of Elastic Units per hour of usage. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">To do this open a RUN window from the start menu and run the command<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditEnvironmentVariables<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">Then create a new variable and set the value to 1.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>If you have any questions relating to elastic licensing, don\u2019t hesitate to get in touch with your local EDRMedeso Support Team.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><strong>\u00a0*<\/strong><em>Note: this applies only when using the latest version of software.
