Using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edrmedeso.com\/products\/ansys-additive-manufacturing\/\">Ansys Additive Manufacturing<\/a>, he\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0how design generation, performance validation, and manufacturing validation can be connected in a single, simulation\u2011driven workflow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"TextRun SCXW87423457 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW87423457 BCX8\">The case for simulation in Additive Manufacturing<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW87423457 BCX8\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As additive manufacturing moves from prototyping to production, the\u00a0importance of business\u00a0case\u00a0is growing.\u00a0Advantages of additive manufacturing \u2013 such as increased design freedom \u2013 must be\u00a0utilized\u00a0to maximize product value. Meanwhile, the\u00a0cost of getting things wrong increases:\u00a0In metal additive manufacturing, issues such as distortion, residual\u00a0stresses, and build failures often only become visible late in the process.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As Hampus described during the presentation\u00a0in Gothenburg,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">increased design freedom does not automatically lead to better results.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0&#8220;This freedom of design can present the engineer with a bit of a conundrum,&#8221; he said, referring to the challenge of evaluating countless design parameters without simulation support.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Simulation addresses this challenge by helping engineers explore, evaluate, and down<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2011<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">select designs early. Hampus explained: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304 BCX8\">&#8220;We start by generating a number of different designs using an algorithm instead of doing it manually with CAD. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304 BCX8\">The\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304 BCX8\">design performance \u2013 for example, structural\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304 BCX8\">dynamics\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304 BCX8\">or heat transfer\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112415304
